I don’t know why, but this song is really just resonating with me lately. Maybe it’s because everything is changing, and not all of it’s for the good. Making me realize how lucky I’ve been, and how much more life I’ve got ahead of me.

How fat is too fat?

I was reading a blog post by a good friend of mine here, and many of the commenters brought up the subject of obesity and how people should be responsible for themselves and their health. Especially around this time of year, many more people are getting onto planes, and a lot of those people are overweight. Should we as a society have to pay for their poor eating and exercising habits, or should they be forced to (literally) pay for their poor habits? What about the people who simply cannot lose the weight due to severe health problems? Should everyone be held to a certain standard, regardless of the circumstances?

I really don’t know the answers to these (and many other) questions. I’d like to say everyone should be responsible for themselves, but then I think about those that have honestly tried to lose the weight and haven’t been successful for reasons beyond their control. So I’m turning it over to you. Should people be responsible for their own weight, or should society as a whole be more accommodating to those with weight issues?
