I Give A Damn

There is a problem in America today. Its 2010, and kids are still being bullied. But not just bullied. They are being harassed, embarrassed, and told that they are less than human. All because they don’t fit the stereotype of what people say they should be. All because ever since they were a little kid, they felt a little different. Just this past week, an 18-year-old Rutgers University student jumped to his death from the George Washington bridge because two of his peers thought it would be funny to broadcast him having sex with another man over the internet.

I don’t care what you think about people who don’t identify with the norm. What I do care about is the fact that these kids are being TORTURED and the people who are supposed to protect them (parents and teachers) are not only not doing anything about it, but even engage in the teasing and outcasting of these kids, and that’s not right. No one should feel like it’s not safe for them to go to school. No one should feel like they have to hide who they are from the people they love. And no one should feel like suicide is their only option, ever. And we have an obligation to help these kids as human beings first and foremost.  I would encourage you to check out THIS site to find out how you can help. Because more people need to give a damn.
